NANGARHAR—A collision between two vehicles in Nangarhar Province left one person dead and six others injured, according to the Taliban-run provincial police department.

The accident, involving a Toyota Corolla and a 2D model car, occurred in the Behsood district, the Taliban-affiliated Bakhtar News Agency reported.

Afghanistan has seen a rise in traffic accidents in recent months, with poor road conditions and driver negligence cited as contributing factors. While the Taliban’s traffic department attributed the incident to driver error, local residents have increasingly voiced concerns over deteriorating infrastructure, including pothole-filled roads and lack of proper signage.

Seasonal changes are also compounding the issue. Increased rainfall and snowfall have made roads more treacherous, particularly in mountainous and rural areas, leading to a spike in accidents during winter months.
