KABUL, Afghanistan — Over 175,000 internally displaced Afghans will receive essential relief items in the coming weeks from aid provided by China Aid’s Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDF), the UN Refugee Agency announced.
The aid package, which will support more than 27,500 households, includes critical supplies such as kitchen sets, blankets, jerry cans, and plastic tarpaulins.
These items will be distributed as family kits to help displaced Afghans meet their basic needs during the harsh winter months.
Afghanistan remains at the center of one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with millions displaced by conflict and natural disasters, including floods and earthquakes, UNICEF said.
Many displaced families have endured prolonged hardships, making timely interventions essential.
“We are very happy to be able to extend this help to some of the most vulnerable in Afghanistan,” said Ma Chenguang, Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, at a handover ceremony at UNHCR’s warehouse in Kabul. “The arrival of these items is very timely as winter approaches, and families will need as much support as possible.”
UNHCR’s Representative in Afghanistan, Arafat Jamal, expressed gratitude for the donation, underscoring its importance in supporting those most in need.
“This vital support from China Aid enables UNHCR to assist displaced families who are struggling in difficult times so that they can meet their basic needs,” Mr. Jamal said. “UNHCR remains committed to helping the most vulnerable in communities across Afghanistan, especially women and girls.”
