Afghanistan U19 secures final spot in tri-nation series

The Afghanistan U19 cricket team secured an eight-wicket victory over the UAE U19 team in their fourth match of the Youth Tri-Nation Series.

With this win, Afghanistan has qualified for the final, where they will face Pakistan U19 on Tuesday, November 26, at the ICC Academy, Ground 1, in Dubai.

In the match, UAE batted first and was bowled out for just 88 runs in 35.5 overs.

Led by Uzair Khan’s unbeaten half-century (57), Afghanistan chased down the target comfortably, scoring 92 runs in 21 overs while losing only two wickets.

A strong showing in the group stage

The Afghanistan U19 team has so far recorded one win and one loss against Pakistan and two wins against the UAE in the group stage of the tournament. The match against UAE marked the team’s final group-stage game ahead of the much-anticipated final against Pakistan.

The Tri-Nation Series serves as preparation for the upcoming U19 Asia Cup, scheduled to begin on November 30 in the UAE. Eight of Asia’s top teams will compete in the event, with Afghanistan considered among the contenders for the title.

Squad changes ahead of the Asia Cup

The Afghanistan U19 team announced that medium-order batsman Azizullah Miyakhil has returned home due to a knee injury and will not participate in the remaining Tri-Nation matches or the U19 Asia Cup. Roholah Arab has been named as his replacement.

This adjustment to the squad comes at a critical time, with the team gearing up for high-stakes regional competition. Having fit and skilled players available for the upcoming matches will be vital for Afghanistan’s success in the tournament.
