KYIV, Ukraine — The U.S. embassy in Kyiv has issued a warning about a potential significant air attack on Wednesday, prompting its temporary closure, the State Department’s Consular Affairs office announced.
“The Embassy will be closed and recommends U.S. citizens be prepared to immediately shelter in the event an air alert is announced,” the department said in a statement posted on its official X account.
Escalation amid new missile strikes
The warning comes a day after Ukraine deployed U.S.-provided ATACMS missiles to strike targets within Russian territory, utilizing newly granted permission from the outgoing Biden administration. The attack coincided with the war’s 1,000th day, marking a significant escalation in the conflict.
For months, Moscow has cautioned Western nations that allowing Ukraine to fire U.S., British, or French missiles deep into Russian territory would be seen as direct involvement in the war. The latest developments are likely to heighten tensions between NATO members and Russia.
