KABUL, Afghanistan — Marking World Children’s Day, the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to supporting children in Afghanistan through initiatives focused on education, healthcare, and protection.
In a statement posted on social media, the EU’s office in Afghanistan emphasized the importance of safeguarding the country’s youngest generation, calling children “the future of Afghanistan.”
“The EU stands firm with Afghans, especially children and mothers,” the statement read, underscoring the union’s ongoing focus on vulnerable populations amid Afghanistan’s deepening humanitarian crisis.
The EU has consistently provided aid to Afghan children through various programs, despite challenges stemming from the Taliban’s restrictive policies, particularly regarding education and the rights of women and girls.
World Children’s Day, observed annually on November 20, highlights the importance of children’s welfare and rights worldwide. The EU’s statement comes as Afghan children face mounting hardships, including limited access to education and healthcare, exacerbated by the country’s fragile economic and social conditions.
