Taliban carried out public floggings of three individuals in the central province of Ghazni on Monday, according to a statement by the Taliban’ Supreme Court. Each person received 30 lashes after being convicted of “sodomy” and was also sentenced to three years in prison.
The identities of those punished were not disclosed in the statement.
This incident follows a pattern of corporal punishments implemented by the Taliban, who have intensified public floggings since their return to power. Just days earlier, a man and a woman were also publicly flogged in Ghazni.
Over the past 10 days, the Taliban have subjected nearly 50 individuals across multiple provinces to public punishment for various alleged offenses.
Human rights organizations, including the United Nations Human Rights Council, have strongly condemned these acts, urging the Taliban to cease such practices immediately.
