KABUL, Afghanistan — A traffic accident on the Kabul-Kandahar highway claimed the lives of four people and injured five others on Wednesday afternoon, local Taliban officials said.
The collision occurred in the Toodi Chini area of Ab Band district in Ghazni Province and involved a 580-model passenger bus and a Corolla sedan.
Among the deceased and injured were one woman and three children, according to local Taliban officials.
Traffic incidents have risen sharply in Afghanistan in recent months. According to data compiled by Amu Television, nearly 200 people have died and close to 300 have been injured in various road accidents across the country over the past three months.
Taliban traffic authorities attribute the rise in accidents to driver negligence and excessive speed on major roadways.
