Australia contributes $1.3 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on Tuesday that Australia has pledged $1.3 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

The funds are earmarked for the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) for 2024, OCHA said.

The donation aims to support vulnerable populations in Afghanistan, as donor countries seek to address the growing humanitarian needs in the region.

Three days earlier, the AHF reported that donor nations contributed a total of $1 billion to the fund over the past year. The fund has urged the international community to continue providing critical support to the Afghan people.

Since the Taliban took power in 2021, Afghanistan’s economic conditions have significantly deteriorated, leaving millions of citizens in increasingly dire circumstances.
