KABUL, Afghanistan — Iran Airtour, a private Iranian airline, began direct flights to Kabul on Monday, marking its first service to Afghanistan.
This new route makes Iran Airtour the fifth Iranian airline to operate flights to Afghanistan.
Officials from the Taliban-run Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation welcomed the service, saying it would enhance economic growth and foster closer cultural ties between the two countries.
They also encouraged other airlines in neighboring countries to resume flights to Afghanistan.
Iran Airtour plans to operate two flights per week between Kabul and Iran, according to company officials.
Mohammad Reza Saberi, the airline’s representative in Afghanistan, expressed optimism about the new route, stating, “We are pleased to launch these flights to strengthen economic development and foster cultural exchange between our nations.”
Taliban officials noted that, in addition to domestic airlines, 10 foreign carriers are currently operating in Afghanistan.
Ghulam Jelani Wafa, Taliban’s Deputy Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation, remarked that the addition of Iran Airtour’s services would further strengthen bilateral ties and contribute to the region’s economic and cultural connectivity.
