Taliban officials in Badghis province have banned journalists from filming for both domestic and international media, sources told Amu on Tuesday.
The sources added that Mutiullah Muttaqi, the Taliban’s information and culture director in the province, issued the warning on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
Sources say Muttaqi, who is closely aligned with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, conveyed the directive during a meeting with journalists.
The ban, according to Muttaqi, stems from a review of the Taliban’s new law.
Journalists were told that anyone caught filming for media outlets would be considered to have committed a crime and referred to Taliban intelligence, sources said.
The Taliban’s new morality law prohibits filming of “living beings,” a restriction that has already been enforced in Takhar province and at meetings in Khost and Paktia.
This move is part of a broader trend of tightening media controls under the Taliban.
