Afghanistan has exported nearly 10,000 tons of onions over the past two months, generating $2 million in revenue, according to the Taliban-run Department of Information and Culture in Kandahar.
The exports, totaling 9,950 tons, were primarily sent to India and Pakistan, key trade partners in the region.
However, Afghan traders have expressed growing concerns over several obstacles hindering their business operations. These include restrictions on money transfers, high tariffs, visa issuance difficulties, and a lack of adequate storage facilities within Afghanistan.
Recently, Pakistan has increased tariffs on Afghan exports, adding to the financial strain on Afghan traders. In response, Taliban have pledged to explore alternative trade routes for the country’s exports. Despite these promises, little progress has been made in addressing the broader challenges facing Afghanistan’s trade sector.
