Afghan migrant alleges son was burned with hot oil by Iranian family

TEHRAN — An Afghan family living in Iran claims their young son was burned with hot oil by an Iranian family following a heated altercation, the latest in a string of alleged mistreatment cases involving Afghan migrants in the country.

The family recounted the incident to Amu TV, stating that a verbal confrontation escalated into violence when the Iranian family reportedly assaulted their son and subsequently scalded him. They further allege that, despite reaching out to Iranian authorities, no action has been taken to address the incident.

The boy’s mother detailed the event, describing how she responded to sounds of a commotion outside her home. “I saw a man beating my younger son. When my older son intervened, they took him inside. One of them grabbed him by the throat, then shoved him towards a pot of hot oil,” she said. “The oil splashed across his face, leaving him severely burned. Even after that, they continued to beat him before they walked away.”

The mother added that her family feels unsafe and threatened. “We’re humiliated and mocked constantly. I’m too scared to leave the house, and I can’t even take my children outside. We spent two nights hiding in someone else’s home,” she said.

The Afghan community in Iran has increasingly reported cases of hostility and discrimination, as Tehran implements stricter policies toward Afghan migrants. Recent reports indicate that thousands of Afghan families have been deported in the past few months, with tensions rising amid growing anti-immigrant sentiment.

Attempts to contact the Afghan Embassy in Tehran for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
