Three Afghan nationals released from Iraqi prisons return home

Three Afghan nationals have returned home after being released from prisons in Iraq, the Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced on Monday.

According to the ministry, the individuals were detained in Iraq for six months due to a lack of legal documentation. Their release and subsequent return to Afghanistan were facilitated by the Afghan embassy in Iran.

This marks the second group of Afghan nationals to be repatriated from Iraqi prisons since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.

Previously, the ministry reported the release and return of 25 Afghan detainees from Iraq. The ministry did not provide additional details on the conditions of their release or the specific charges that led to their detentions.
