In the latest instance of public corporal punishment, the Taliban flogged two women and a man in the northeastern Takhar province on Wednesday.

The individuals, accused of adultery, were each given 39 lashes in front of a crowd on Wednesday in the Farhar district, according to a statement from the Taliban’s Supreme Court.

The incident is part of a broader trend of public floggings carried out by the Taliban in recent weeks.

According to Taliban statements, nearly 20 people have been publicly flogged across various provinces in the past three weeks.

Data compiled by Amu TV shows that over the past three years, at least 700 individuals have faced public lashings under Taliban rule.

The United Nations, in its quarterly report, noted that the Taliban has continued to administer corporal punishment despite international criticism.

Both the U.N. and global human rights organizations have repeatedly called for an end to such punishments, emphasizing the need to uphold fundamental human rights and protect individuals from cruel and degrading treatment.
