Khaybar Houshmand, a political analyst recently detained by the Taliban, is reportedly in poor physical and mental health while in custody, according to sources familiar with his condition.
The sources say Hoshmand has been subjected to threats and mistreatment by the Taliban, warning him not to speak about the torture and harsh conditions he has faced during his detention.
Hoshmand, arrested for his outspoken opposition to the closure of girls’ schools and his criticism of ethnic and regional discrimination, has not been in contact with his family since his arrest on September 24. His deteriorating condition has raised serious concerns among those close to him.
Taliban have not released any information regarding Hoshmand’s detention or his current health status.
