Helicopter crash in northern Pakistan kills six, sources say

At least six people were killed when a chartered helicopter crashed in northern Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, according to security sources.

The helicopter, operated by a private company, went down shortly after takeoff in North Waziristan, a volatile region near the Afghan border.

The crash, which occurred with around 14 people on board, also left eight injured, who were subsequently hospitalized. Among the passengers were Russian pilots, according to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Pakistan has experienced several aviation accidents in recent years. In 2022, a military helicopter crashed during a training exercise in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing both pilots. In 2020, a Pakistan International Airlines Airbus crashed into a residential area in Karachi, killing most of the 99 people on board.
