Floods in the eastern province of Nangarhar have claimed the lives of at least three people and injured 20 others, according to local reports.
The floods, which struck several villages in the Kuz Kunar district, have caused widespread destruction, leaving hundreds without shelter.
The Taliban-run Bakhtar News Agency reported that at least 150 homes were partially or completely destroyed in the flooding.
The affected villages include Kandi, Ghaziabad, Janat Khan, Qalatak, and Salampor.
In addition to damaging homes, the floods breached a key irrigation canal, exacerbating the destruction in these rural areas.
Afghanistan, ranked as one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, has been experiencing an uptick in severe weather events, including flash floods that have displaced thousands and caused significant infrastructure damage.
The country is currently ranked sixth globally for its susceptibility to the effects of climate change, making natural disasters like this more frequent and severe.
Flooding has been a recurrent problem in Afghanistan this year, affecting thousands of residents across the country, many of whom already face economic hardship and limited access to emergency services.
