Iran has completed more than 10 kilometers of border fortification along its border with Afghanistan, according to the commander of the Iranian Army Forces.
Nozar Nemati, the commander, also announced that an additional 50 kilometers of border wall construction is underway. He said that nearly 20 construction units are currently working to advance infrastructure and wall installation along the Afghanistan-Iran border, and that responsibility for the project has been handed over to the Iranian Army.
“We began fortifying the border from the northern section of the Afghanistan border, and a coordinated unit has been established to oversee the project,” Nemati said. “The project is progressing in an organized manner, with part of it being carried out by the Army.”
The commander emphasized that the border fortification aims to enhance security and prevent smuggling.
“Securing the border will contribute to the country’s economic growth and allow for more precise control over border crossings,” Nemati said. “It’s not that we want to close the country off; we have official entry and exit points with all neighboring countries.”
Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, regional countries, particularly Afghanistan’s neighbors, have expressed growing concerns about the rise of terrorist threats originating from Afghan territory.
