At least 280 migrant families were repatriated from Iran and Pakistan to Afghanistan on Tuesday, according to a Taliban-run media outlet.
The Bakhtar News Agency reported that the migrants were either forcibly or voluntarily expelled from the neighboring countries.
The families reentered Afghanistan through four major border crossings: Torkham, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala, and the Silk Bridge route.
Eighteen families returned via Torkham, 23 through Spin Boldak, 93 through the Silk Bridge, and 146 crossed at Islam Qala, the report stated.
Both Iran and Pakistan have intensified efforts to deport Afghan migrants in recent months.
Senior Iranian officials have warned that undocumented Afghan migrants will face arrest, detention, and deportation. Akbar Akbari, a commander in Iran’s Pishva city, emphasized that the crackdown on undocumented migrants continues with “intensity.”
In addition to expulsions, Iranian authorities have implemented restrictions on Afghan migrants, banning them from employment and preventing their children from enrolling in schools.
Afghan migrants in Pakistan have also raised concerns about the challenges they face, citing mental stress and pressure from authorities as deportations increase.
