KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban publicly flogged a man in the eastern province of Khost on charges of “insulting religious sanctities,” according to a statement released by the Taliban’s Supreme Court.

The man was subjected to 39 lashes in front of a crowd, the court said.

The incident follows another public flogging just a day earlier, when the Taliban lashed a woman in Kabul for alleged adultery and sentenced her to two years in prison.

Despite ongoing criticism from the United Nations and global human rights organizations, the Taliban continue to carry out corporal punishments, including public floggings.

In a recent report marking the third anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power on August 15, Amnesty International condemned the group’s actions, accusing them of committing atrocities in Afghanistan with “absolute impunity” under international law. The organization also criticized the global community and the United Nations for their inaction over the past three years, calling it a “shameful” failure to address the humanitarian crisis in the country.

According to findings by Amu TV, the Taliban have publicly flogged more than 600 people, including over 100 women, across Afghanistan during their three-year rule.
