KABUL, Afghanistan — The Torkham border crossing between Afghanistan and Pakistan has been reopened for passenger travel and commercial trucks, according to the Taliban-run media affairs department in Nangarhar Province. The crossing was fully reopened this afternoon for all “legal” movement, the Taliban stated.

Earlier in the day, local Taliban officials in Nangarhar announced that Pakistan had closed the crossing, though they did not provide details on the reason behind the closure. The Torkham crossing, a crucial trade and transit route, was also temporarily closed on August 1, affecting commercial trucks as both countries imposed new entry requirements for drivers.

The reopening of the crossing is expected to alleviate disruptions in cross-border trade and travel, which are vital for the economies of both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
