As the deportation of migrants continues, 183 migrant families returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan and Iran on Thursday, August 8, according to figures by the Taliban-run refugees ministry.
According to the ministry, 31 families crossed back into Afghanistan from Pakistan through the Spin Boldak border crossing, while another 27 families returned via the Torkham crossing.
Additionally, 47 families reentered Afghanistan from Iran via the Silk Road crossing, and 78 families arrived through the Islam Qala border point.
The deportations come amid increasing reports of harsh treatment faced by Afghan refugees in both neighboring countries.
In Iran, a video circulating online showing a police officer pressing his knee on the neck of an Afghan teenage refugee has sparked widespread outrage among human rights activists and political figures.
Meanwhile, Afghan migrants in Pakistan continue to face forced deportations and detentions by the Pakistani authorities, exacerbating the plight of those seeking refuge in the region.
