Iranian official says Chabahar Port crucial trade route for Afghanistan

The Director General of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Sistan and Baluchestan has highlighted the strategic importance of Chabahar port for trade, transportation and transit of goods, particularly for Afghanistan.

Quoted in a report by IRNA on Wednesday, Qassem Askari-Nasab emphasized that Chabahar is the most efficient and cost-effective route for transit to Central Asian countries.

Askari-Nasab described Chabahar as one of Iran’s key ports, situated in the northern part of the Oman Sea with strategic access to international waters. This location positions Chabahar as a pivotal hub for Iran’s trade with regional countries.

With an annual loading and unloading capacity exceeding 8.5 million metric tons, Chabahar offers a significant advantage for Afghan investors and businessmen, according to Iranian officials.

The port facilitates the import of essential commodities such as wheat and supports packaging and processing activities for edible oil, foodstuffs, and industrial oils.

Askari-Nasab noted that Afghanistan can utilize Chabahar to export agricultural products, including fruits and dried fruits.

He remarked that Afghan investors regard Chabahar port as the optimal route for both exporting and importing a wide range of commodities, underscoring its importance for the landlocked country.
