US monitors situation of flood-affected in Afghanistan: Decker

US Charge d’Affaires Karen Decker

Karen Decker, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires for Afghanistan, stated that the U.S. is closely monitoring the situation in the flood-affected provinces of Afghanistan following deadly natural disasters that have claimed dozens of lives and injured over 300 people.

In a post on X, Decker expressed sympathy for the flood-affected families in the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, and Panjshir. “We are monitoring the situation and mobilizing emergency relief, including food, water, and other essential supplies, to support those in need,” she said.

Decker also highlighted the impact of climate change on Afghanistan, using the hashtag “Climate Change” in her post. The United Nations has identified Afghanistan as the sixth most vulnerable country to climate change.
