Afghanistan: Storm, rain death toll in Nangarhar reaches 40

Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan — The death toll from a severe storm and heavy rain in Nangarhar Province has risen to 40, according to Taliban officials.

Sharafat Zaman, a spokesman for the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health, reported that Monday’s storm and rain (July 15) in Nangarhar have left 40 people dead and 347 injured.

He also noted that a large number of residential homes were damaged in the storm.

Siddiqullah Qureshi, head of publications for the Taliban’s Department of Information and Culture in Nangarhar, added that the storm and rain have also caused significant damage to agricultural lands in various parts of the province.

In the Sar-Khroad district, five members of one family were killed. Another family lost 11 members in the storm.

Meanwhile, recent floods in Panjshir and Badakhshan provinces have also caused extensive damage.
