Bus crash in Afghanistan’s Salang Pass kills 17

Baghlan Province, Afghanistan — Seventeen people were killed when a bus carrying over 50 passengers lost control and overturned on the Salang Pass, a key highway connecting Kabul with northern provinces, sources said.

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning in the Takht-e-Sang area of Northern Salang, within the Khindjan District of Baghlan Province.

The crash involved a passenger bus, model 580, which rolled over the road. At least 34 others were injured, according to sources who provided photos of the accident to Amu.

Among the victims were three children and two women, the sources confirmed.

The injured have been transported to the central hospital in Pul-e-Khumri city.

This tragic incident is part of a concerning rise in traffic accidents on highways across Afghanistan. In recent months, dozens of people have lost their lives in similar incidents.

Officials from the Taliban-controlled Traffic Directorate have attributed most of these accidents to driver negligence and excessive speed.
