More than 1,600 Afghan migrants were expelled from Pakistan and Iran on Sunday, July 14, according to a statement by Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees.

According to the ministry, 184 migrants were deported by Pakistan while Iran expelled 1,430 individuals.

The migrants entered the country through the Torkham border crossing as well as the Silk Bridge border town in the western province of Nimroz.

This latest wave of expulsions follows a similar mass expulsion the previous day, when nearly 2,000 Afghan migrants were deported by both countries.

In related developments, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) had confirmed that Pakistan would suspend the expulsion of Afghan migrants. However, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the deportations have not ceased and will continue as planned.
