ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The Pakistani government has reiterated that it has no plans to engage in negotiations with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant group responsible for numerous attacks within the country.
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, spokesperson for Pakistan’s foreign ministry, made the statement during a weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.
She emphasized that the TTP has been involved in the killing of both Pakistani and foreign citizens.
Baloch also urged the Taliban to prevent terrorist groups from using Afghanistan’s territory to launch attacks against Pakistan.
“We have evidence that the TTP is operating from within Afghanistan,” she said.
The TTP, an armed militant group, has claimed responsibility for several attacks on the Pakistani military. Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Taliban of providing safe havens to the TTP, a claim that the Taliban denies.
In a recent press conference, Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid addressed the issue following his visit to the Doha meeting held from June 30 to July 1. He characterized the TTP as an internal matter for Pakistan to resolve independently.
Pakistan continues to seek international support in urging the Taliban to take decisive action against militant groups using Afghanistan’s territory for cross-border attacks.
