Italy has donated $3.1 million to the Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan (STFA), the fund announced on Thursday.
According to the STFA, the donation will aid UN agencies in efforts to empower women, address climate change, and provide durable solutions for displaced persons and returnees.
The STFA noted on X that this is Italy’s first contribution to the Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan.
Previously, Denmark contributed $7.29 million to the fund. In light of the Taliban’s oppressive policies towards women and girls, many international donors have reduced their funding to Afghanistan, including for humanitarian operations.
