Taliban inaugurated the “Afghanistan Private Sector Support Fund” on Thursday, aiming to address the high rate of unemployment in the country.
At the ceremony in Kabul, Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s deputy prime minister for economic affairs, claimed that the fund would help reduce unemployment nationwide.
However, Afghan citizens expressed frustration over rising poverty, citing a lack of job opportunities as their main challenge. Women entrepreneurs also voiced concerns, stating that Taliban restrictions on women and girls have negatively impacted their businesses, forcing many to halt operations.
Baradar explained that the fund is intended not only to boost private sector operations but also to accelerate development and transit.
This initiative comes as the United Nations has warned that over 23 million people in Afghanistan are in dire need of humanitarian assistance
