Imangali Tasmagambetov, the Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), has called Afghanistan as the “main source of instability, challenges, and cross-border threats in Central Asia.”
According to a report by the Russian news agency TASS, Tasmagambetov emphasized that Afghanistan currently occupies a central place in the CSTO’s focus.
“The organization continues to monitor the challenges and threats emanating from Afghanistan,” Tasmagambetov stated. “We coordinate efforts to counter these threats using the capabilities of the working group on Afghanistan under the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers.”
In a related development, Rustam Emomali, the head of Tajikistan’s parliament and son of President Emomali Rahmon, remarked at a meeting of CSTO member states that Afghanistan has turned into a “hub of terrorism.”
