West discusses ‘shared interest in Afghanistan’ with UAE officials

The U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West, said on X that he met with Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs of the UAE, and Salem Al Zaabi, Advisor to the Foreign Minister, to discuss “shared interests in Afghanistan.”

West noted that there were “aligned views” on the economy, security situation, and the need for diplomacy regarding Afghanistan.

“Appreciate all that UAE is doing to support a pathway to a brighter future for all Afghans,” West said.

The UAE foreign ministry also stated that the two sides discussed joint efforts on the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 2721 and collaboration on a pathway towards security, stability, and prosperity for all the people of Afghanistan, especially Afghan women.

Efforts among envoys and officials of the countries involved in Afghanistan’s affairs come ahead of a UN-hosted meeting in Doha, where participants will discuss a collective approach regarding Afghanistan.
