Sources say Taliban opened fire on protesters in Badakhshan’s Argu district

Sources report that Taliban opened fire on protesters in the Argu district of Badakhshan province on Monday, “forcibly” suppressing the demonstration using “violence”.

The protests, which erupted over local grievances, have resulted in casualties, sources said. Specific details about the number of fatalities remain unclear.

The protest in Argu is part of a wider pattern of unrest. Nearly two weeks earlier, a resident of Argu was killed during a Taliban crackdown on protesters. In a related incident in the Darayim district, another protester was reportedly killed under similar circumstances.

Following these protests, Taliban deployed additional forces to Darayim and Argu and announced the continuation of their campaign to eradicate poppy cultivation.
