Afghanistan: Traffic accident in Badghis kills child, injures 24

QALA-E-NAW, Afghanistan — A child was killed and at least 24 others were injured in a traffic accident on the Badghis-Herat highway, according to Sediqullah Sadiqi, a spokesman for the Taliban’s security command in Badghis.

The crash occurred when a passenger vehicle overturned after veering off the road in Qala-e-Naw, the provincial capital, in western Afghanistan.

The precise cause of the accident has not been determined, but such incidents are frequently attributed to driver negligence and poor road conditions.

During the three-day Eid celebration last week (April 10 to 14), traffic incidents across Afghanistan resulted in at least 50 deaths and 185 injuries, the Taliban reported.
