Taliban says Iran promised to bar anti-Taliban activities on its territory

The Taliban claimed that Iran’s deputy ambassador in Kabul, Hassan Murtazavi, assured the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister that Tehran would not permit any political activities against the Taliban within its borders.

The Iranian embassy in Kabul so far has not commented on the matter.

However, Taliban-run national broadcaster, RTA, cited the Iranian diplomat, as saying that Tehran seeks “positive engagement” from regional countries with the Taliban “government”.

Iran hosts several anti-Taliban figures since August 2021. Over the past two and a half years, the Iranian government has repeatedly called for the establishment of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

This follows Iran’s arrest of four individuals linked to a commander of the Resistance Front, an anti-Taliban movement, earlier in April 2024.

They were accused of affiliations with Daesh. The Resistance Front has not yet issued a statement on the matter.
