A former Afghan diplomat in Washington DC and a former deputy minister from Afghanistan, Mohammad Haroon Hakimi, was arrested in Prince William County, Virginia, following an investigation into a sexual assault report, police said.

According to media reports, Hakimi, 33, faces rape charges after a 27-year-old woman, whom he had recently met and invited to his Woodbridge home, accused him of the assault.

The Prince William County Police Department responded to a call late Friday afternoon in the 12200 block of Grenada Way, Woodbridge, for an incident that reportedly occurred earlier that day, media reports say.

According to the police, the woman was allegedly assaulted by Hakimi “whom she had recently met while at his residence.” She managed to escape the home and then contacted the authorities.

Hakimi was arrested Saturday and charged with rape. Details about his initial court appearance and bond were not available as of March 11.
