Russia launched an Iranian research satellite into space to scan Iran’s topography from an orbit of 500 kilometers (about 310 miles), the Russian Space Agency Roscosmos reported Thursday.
The Pars 1 remote sensing satellite, carried by a Russian Soyuz rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome, weighs 134 kilograms (about 295 pounds) and is equipped with three cameras.
The cosmodrome, operational since 2016, is located in the Amur region of Russia’s Far East, near the Russian border with China and approximately 1,500 kilometers (about 930 miles) from the port of Vladivostok.
