Three dead, 28 injured in train collision in west Indonesia

A train collision in Cicalengka, West Java, on Friday left at least three dead and 28 injured, with rescuers struggling to free two people trapped between railway cars, authorities said.

The collision, which occurred near the provincial capital of Bandung at about 6:03 a.m. local time (1103 GMT), involved commuter trains and resulted in several derailed carriages, according to footage from Kompas TV.

Hery Marantika, head of a local rescue agency, said efforts were underway to rescue two individuals caught between the train cars, but did not confirm their condition. Police coordinated with ambulances at the scene to transport the injured to hospitals.

The deceased were identified as train crew members. Officials stated that 478 passengers were on board at the time of the crash. The cause of the collision remains unclear, but train operator PT KAI and the West Java provincial government have pledged to conduct a thorough investigation alongside transport safety authorities.”
