Afghanistan clinched a 72-run victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the first T20I of their series in Sharjah on Friday.
Batting first, Afghanistan posted a formidable 203-3 in 20 overs.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the charge with his first T20I century, contributing significantly to Afghanistan’s score. His 100 off 52 balls, including seven fours and sixes, was the highlight of a 137-run partnership with stand-in captain Ibrahim Zadran.
Zadran supported with a steady 59 off 43 balls, bolstering Afghanistan’s total.
The UAE struggled in their chase, reduced to 56-4 early on and eventually reaching 131-4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Fazalhaq Farooqi was a standout for Afghanistan’s bowling lineup, taking two wickets. Naveen-ul-Haq and Noor Ahmad also contributed with a wicket each.
The teams are set to meet again in the second T20I on Sunday.
