Qatar’s Prime Minister, Abdulrahman al-Thani, held a meeting with the UN Special Coordinator for Afghanistan, Feridun Sinirlioghlu, in Doha on Sunday.
According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions during the meeting revolved around the ongoing cooperation between Qatar and the United Nations, with a focus on the latest developments in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, Qatar’s Prime Minister reiterated the nation’s unwavering commitment to the Afghan people, emphasizing the importance of helping them achieve their aspirations for progress and prosperity. Additionally, Qatar pledged its continuous support for the UN’s endeavors aimed at establishing security and stability in Afghanistan.
The UN Special Coordinator expressed his appreciation for Qatar’s persistent efforts in supporting international initiatives aimed at realizing lasting peace in Afghanistan.
In April, the UN secretary general appointed Feridun Sinirlioglu of Turkiye as the Special Coordinator, Independent Assessment for Afghanistan.
The UN secretary general has asked Sinirlioglu to lead the independent assessment with a view to providing recommendations for an integrated and coherent approach to address the current challenges faced by Afghanistan.
