Kylian Mbappe was reinstated into the Paris St Germain (PSG) first team on Sunday, a day after being excluded from the lineup for the Ligue 1 season opener against Lorient. Reportedly, he had also been sidelined from the main squad for several weeks due to an ongoing contract dispute.
PSG commenced their title defense at home against Lorient on Saturday, with Mbappe observing the goalless draw from the stands. He was joined by new recruit and fellow World Cup champion Ousmane Dembele, who had just finalized his transfer to Paris earlier in the day.
Tensions between Mbappe and PSG had escalated following the France captain’s declaration that he would not extend his contract, set to expire at the close of the 2023-24 season. This timeline allows him the option to leave Paris without a transfer fee.
In a statement, PSG announced, “Following productive and positive discussions between PSG and Kylian Mbappe before the Lorient match, the player has been reintegrated into the first-team training squad this morning.”
