Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered that former Prime Minister Imran Khan be released from custody on Thursday, Pakistani media reported.
Khan was arrested on Tuesday in connection to a corruption case in Al Qadir Trust project. His arrest sparked countrywide protests that led to the death of at least eight people and injured over 290 others.
Pakistan’s Supreme Court declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-InSaf chief Imran Khan’s arrest “illegal.”
The order came shortly after Khan was presented in court. He was brought to the court in a convoy of 15 vehicles.
His court session was held at around 5:40pm Pakistan time. His lawyers had challenged the legality of the arrest in the court on Thursday morning and requested his release.
