Five children killed in blast in Maidan Wardak

At least five children were killed in an unexploded ordnance blast in Maidan Wardak province on Friday afternoon.

The blast happened at around 3:30 pm on Friday when children were playing in Dasht-e-Top village in Sayed Abad district of Maidan Wardak, a province in the east of Kabul.

Zarakullah Zeerak, Taliban’s head of public health directorate in Maidan Wardak, said in a statement that two more children were wounded in the blast.
He said that all the victims were children below 12 years of age.

According to him, the wounded were in critical condition and were taken to the Emergency Hospital in Kabul.

Figures by Taliban’s Directorate of Mine Action Coordination in October showed that civilian casualties from UXO incidents had increased in recent months.According to the authority, over 500 people were killed or wounded in such incidents over the last year and that vast areas need to be cleared of the remnants of war.
