The Taliban governor for Balkh province of Afghanistan Mohammad Dawood Muzammil was killed in an explosion at his office on Thursday, sources told Amu TV.
A spokesman for the police command in Balkh, Asif Waziri said that the blast happened while Taliban officials were gathering for an administrative meeting.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, said that Muzammil and a civilian were killed in the blast.
So far, the nature of the explosion was unclear and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Mohammad Dawood Muzammil was appointed as governor of Balkh six months ago. He had worked as the group’s deputy interior minister and governor for Nangarhar province.
Before the fall of the republic government, he had been the Taliban’s designated governor for Farah province.
