Former lawmaker Fawzia Koofi has condemned a Taliban raid on her residence in northeastern Afghanistan, calling it a “cowardly act” after several of her relatives and local residents were detained.

Koofi said in a statement posted on X that Taliban forces carried out the raid on April 28 in Badakhshan province, targeting a house linked to her and arresting multiple people.

She said some of those detained were her relatives, while others were local residents with no connection to her.

“Such an attack is a cowardly act,” Koofi said, adding that it reflected both “weakness and instability” within the Taliban while also underscoring the impact of Afghan women’s activism.

Koofi said families of those detained have received no information about their whereabouts, health condition or legal status. She added that at least two of the detainees have existing health problems.

According to her statement, Taliban forces had earlier seized one of her homes several months ago, forcing family members to relocate. The latest raid targeted the new residence.

Koofi called on relevant organizations to urgently follow up on the case and ensure the safety and well-being of those detained.

She also urged Afghans, particularly women, to continue what she described as a collective struggle for rights and freedoms.

“The Taliban’s repressive actions have not weakened our resolve,” she said.

Local sources previously reported that Taliban carried out the raid on Tuesday, April 28, detaining several individuals. The reason for the arrests remains unclear.

Taliban have not commented publicly on the incident.
