A woman was killed and four others injured after heavy rains caused the roof of two homes to collapse in eastern Nangarhar Province, Taliban officials said on Monday.
According to the Taliban police command in Nangarhar, one of the incidents occurred in the Ghani Khil district, where the roof of a house collapsed in the 25th Road area. A similar incident was reported in the Landi area of Nazian district.
The injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment, the Taliban police command said.
The incident comes amid a broader wave of severe weather across the country. In recent days, heavy rains and flooding have affected multiple provinces, causing casualties and widespread damage.
The Taliban’s disaster management agency said earlier that at least 17 people had been killed and 26 injured in flooding and rain-related incidents across at least 13 provinces over a 24-hour period.
Those provinces included Parwan, Daikundi, Logar, Wardak, Farah, Herat, Ghor, Samangan, Faryab, Jawzjan, Badghis, Laghman and Sar-e Pul.
The Taliban-run National Disaster Management Authority said dozens of homes had been destroyed or damaged, along with roads and agricultural land, affecting hundreds of families.
The agency has warned that rainfall is expected to continue, raising the risk of further incidents.
