Clashes have erupted between local residents and the Taliban in Chah Ab district in the northeastern province of Takhar on Monday over control of a mining site, local sources said.
At least three local residents were wounded in the fighting, sources told Amu TV.
According to the sources, Taliban have since cordoned off areas where mining was taking place in a section of the district known locally as Block One.
Taliban have not commented on the incident.
The clashes follow a protest held last week by local residents against what they described as uncontrolled gold mining in the district. During the protest, demonstrators damaged equipment belonging to a company contracted to extract gold at the site, the sources said.
