Six people were killed and 42 others injured in a traffic accident in Afghanistan’s northern Baghlan province, Taliban police command said on Sunday.
The crash occurred at around 1:40 a.m. local time when a bus travelling from Pul-e-Khumri toward Kabul skidded on an icy road and went out of control in the Golai-e-Panj area, the Taliban police command said in a statement.
Among the injured were two children and two women, the statement said, adding that all the wounded were taken to the Baghlan provincial hospital for treatment.
Local traffic authorities urged drivers to exercise extreme caution during winter due to icy and slippery roads.
Road accidents are common on Afghanistan’s highways because of poor road conditions, harsh weather, speeding and a lack of traffic enforcement. More than 4,000 traffic accidents were reported nationwide in the year to January 2025, killing about 2,000 people, according to available figures.
