Four militants were killed on Friday after they attacked a security forces camp in the Boya area of North Waziristan district in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistani media reported, citing police officials.
According to the reports, the assailants managed to enter the camp and opened fire, triggering an exchange in which all four attackers were killed. Four security personnel were wounded in the incident.
Police were quoted as saying preliminary information suggested the attackers may have used an explosives-laden vehicle or a suicide vest. A powerful blast was heard as far away as Miranshah, about 25 km (15 miles) from the site, local media reported.
Security forces sealed off the area following the attack and launched a clearance operation, while bomb disposal units were dispatched to examine the scene. Rescue and medical teams were also deployed, and authorities said investigations were under way.
Security was tightened across the district and traffic on a key highway was temporarily suspended as a precaution, Pakistani media said.
The incident comes amid a surge in militant violence in Pakistan. Earlier this year, Pakistan ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with deaths from militant attacks rising 45% compared with the previous year, according to the report.
Two months earlier, four militants were killed after Pakistani forces foiled a suicide attack on a military camp in North Waziristan’s Mir Ali area, state media reported at the time.
