Pakistan deports nearly 1,200 migrants in a single day

Pakistan deported 1,198 Afghan nationals on Monday, Dec. 8, the Taliban’s commission for refugees said, as Islamabad continues its intensified expulsion campaign.

The commission said another 381 migrants were returned from Iran, both forcibly and voluntarily.

The returnees entered Afghanistan through the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Bahramcha, Pul-e Abrisham and Islam Qala border crossings.

Pakistan deported more than 3,100 migrants on Sunday and 2,843 individuals on Saturday.

Pakistan has stepped up arrests and deportations of Afghan migrants in recent weeks.

The deportations come as major border crossings between the two countries have remained closed for the past two months.
